Steering Wheel squeaking- blonde needs help

Hi there

I have a BMW 323i (1999) M3 and the steering wheel started to squeek slightly about 9 months ago. All of a sudden, last week it was really loud, squeeking when I was turning corners etc. Sometimes its a little hard to steer also. This comes and go's. Today for example- not a squeak.

I had a mechanic look at it and they advised that the steering coil needed to be replaced and that it was connected to the airbag. The cost of this is approx $1300.00.

I asked him if a bit of CRC would do the trick and he said no.

I am a naive blonde (not a bimbo though) and wondered whether I can trust this advice.

Any help would be appreciated.

Probably the slip ring. Way cheaper.

mine used to squeak now it sounds like a ring broke and its clicking lol

there is a DIY on your problem on this site. All that has to be done is some lubrication u shouldn't have to pay 1300 for it.
