Steering wheel CREAKING

Does anyone have any ideas on the reason for my steering wheel "creaking" whenever I turn from left to right?

Is this a common thing? Solutions?

We have a 98 323is.

Where does the sound come from? it is most likely your power steering system

It sounds like it's coming from the insides of my steering wheel. When the wheel creaks, I can feel the slight vibration in the steering wheel. Could it have something to do with the mechanics of the air bag?

my steering wheel makes some weird noises too sometimes... somtimes its a "clicking" noise and other times its a "squeeling" noise... but then it will go away for a while and come back.. oh well =\

my real "noise" problem comes from my rear deck (behind the back seats) -- SERIOUS CREEKING there (like creeking even when your on the smoothest road)
ANNOYS ME MORE THAN ANYTHING .. too bad i can't find an answer to what the noise is

My wife's jeep does has the same "creaking" in the power steering...only if I turn the wheel all the way in either direction with the car standing still...

Ok... I'll add too it.... mine use to do it... before I took it off.... and put a different one on... but yes... my M did it off and on... its a clicking noise.. and it seems to be hard to turn with tension from left to right.. and just takes a quick yanking of the wheel to disingauge it...
