Steering Noise

Hello All,
I've recently replaced the shocks and springs on my 1992 BMW E36. While at the garage I was asked to return it in a week or so to re-do the tracking after it had settled a while.
When I got this done I now have a very dull thud if I turn sharp. Its almost like a rubber sliping over something. This noise was not there after I had the shocks replaced and only appeared when I had the tracking done the second time.
I returned to the garage where he they re did the tracking...it was out after a week but it looks like the noise is still there. Any suggestions.

I can only assume that this is as a direct result of something that was done while tracking the second time but I;d like to have an idea as to what to point out to them when I go back again!!!

it could be an inner tie-rod or track rod end - jack the front of your car up and rock the front wheels to find any free play; you will usually feel a "clicking" as opposed to nothing (sorry if i have explained this incorrectly!)
if you don't feel confident enough to do this yourself, take it to another mechanic to get his opinion - if the garage who tracked your car missed something as obvious as that, i'd have my hand out for a substantial refund!
i have to replace an inner tie-rod in my baby tomorrow - looks easy enough, everything is accessible (symptoms same as yours, and it knocks when i hit a bump at higher speeds)

Turns out that the upper spring plate is allowing the spring to rotate past the stop. Dont know if its because they didn't tighten it enough but its a bit suspect. Will check to see of any wear on the spring seat and get them to replace if it is. Having this done tomorrow so will post if it fixes the problem.

Looks like the fox is a good one. No more steering thud and alignment looks good.
