SRS light.

Sometimes it blinks, sometimes it stays on. What could this be?

BImmerN2B is an unknown quantity at this point
I believe it to be the seatbelt sensor. when it starts going faulty, that's what starts to happen.

Had the same thing happen...long story short, get your codes read, have them reset, see if it comes back.

SRS system consists of airbags, seatbelt tensioners, a sensor that determines if the passenger seat is occupied or not (!), the seatbelt sensors that BImmerN2B mentions, all kinds of spookey expensive stuff.

My code reading said the passenger seatbelt sensor was the culprit. I reset the code and it hasn't come back (six months now).

Clean the seat belt buckles...

Get some CRC electrical contact cleaner and spray it into the seat belt buckles (the female end...) to clean out the sensors. They pile up with lint and dirt, and sodas over the years. Its almost always the seatbelt buckle sensors.
