Srs Light - BMW Forum

i was fiddling with my guage cluster the other day. removing some bulbs cause they need replacing. anyway, when i put it back in my SRS light comes on and blinks for a period of time once in a while. I call BMW of Bellevue and the service guy says my airbags are messed up. I dont feel comfortable driving around with no air bags. What is this SRS light all about? Is there something the Bmw service dick isnt telling me?

Well, before you go insulting people maybe take the time to consider what they are trying to tell you. Your SRS light will only blink or illuminate if there is a fault present in the system and as a failsafe the system will deactivate the airbag units to prevent an accedental deployment. For your safety you should have the system inspected by a BMW professional. BMW of Bellevue is a very reputable center.

Did your remove the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connector to work on the gauge cluster? If you did and did not disconnect the battery you have caused the SRS issue. A dealer or independent tech can reset the SRS light, but if the light stays on you have no airbag protection.

i apologize for the insult on the bmw tech. he has been helpful in the past with my calls. i didnt touch the steering wheel, just thought it was weird that it woudl pop up all of a sudden. i know of the fail-safe system, which is comforting that i know they wont deploy for no reason but sucks still not comforting knowing i dont have any airbags. ill get it looked at.
