hi all! got a '94 e36 automatic compact.. no problems at all .. untill 2day .. some little squeeking sound apeared .. seeming to come from under the hood/exhaust but it was pretty silent .. drove te entire day like 100 Km in total.
then all of a sudden there was a loud very loud squeeking (sounded like the sound be4 but much louder) sound and the car stopt and the engine also stopped.
looking outside, fluid was rapidly leaking from under the car, below the left side under the engine, it had been leaking heavily for like 10-15 meters or something. it was at night so i could see the color, the fluid came from the front left side under the hood.. at first (and night) sight it didnt look like oil, it was kinda thick still..
please, anybody got any ideas what this could be??
thanks!!!

dont think it was overheated, had stood still for like 2 hours, then we drove 2 km, then we stopped again for 30 minutes, and we drove 1 km, turned the engine of waited 1 minute and started the car again and thats where the problem i described in the first post happened.
dont think it could have been overheated?

hi i just went to the place where it happened. i dont think its oil because there were no stains of al the leakage from yesterday.. or am i wrong?
the fluid is thicker than water and doesnt really have a color..
no overheating and massive leak most likely is power steering then. This would account for a mild then LOUD squealing. Maybe a hose came undone or need a new pump.. Power steering issues are somewhat common. Usually the problem is caught before that happens.

the entire day there was a mild sound and at the end loud noise and massive leak..
can a mallfunctional power steering be the cause why the car wont run/start?
i didnt special noises/troubles while steering in particular?
Power steering has nothing to do with the car not starting..I skipped that info in your post. THe fluid could be one of 4 things- coolant, oil, ATF, or brake fluid..
