Squeky Brakes

I just bought a 1994 325i with 90,000 miles. For the first 550 miles of me owning it I had no brake squekyness until today. The previous owner says the breaks are fairly new and my BMW expert buddy verified that they were infact not in need of replacement anytime soon.

I have not abused (slammed) on my brakes at all and it never happend when I test drove the car (and did test brakes). Could it possibly be the 100 degree heat here in LA? Could it be the brakes aren't properly lubricated or something? If I brake harder they don't squeak, only when the brake is lightly engaged.

Edit: This only happens after driving a bit. When i first get in the car for the first 10 miles or so there is no squeaking. That is what led me to the heat theory.

Some pads squeak more than others especially they are the cheaper ones. Dust can be the culprit too.

I would first try using brake cleaner and inspecting the pads yourself. At the same time check the discs (rotors) for wear... scratches (deep ones) on the rotors etc.

You can also try going to a brake shop and have them check, they usually do it for free. You may have a lot of dust have them blow it out.

Yes, heat will cause them to squeak.

I just went to a ceramic set-up and they're great, no squeaks.

Most of the time brakes squeak becuase they vibrate. I own an E30 myself and this is usually the culprate. Get yourself some anti-squeak compound that you apply to the back of your pads and try that out. You have to take the pads out so hopefully you are up to the challenge
