Squeking Noise

I've had a squeking noise coming from the front of the car for a while now it sounds like a belt sound or something. When I brought it to get looked at I was told that it was my tensioner. Does that make sense to anyone or could it be somthing else?

yes. Old belts, or a tensioner that's not making the belt tense enough around all the pullys will causing it to slip and make noise.

The AC compressors are also known to make an awful metal screaching noise, but only when engaged. (not too loud be very very obvious)

So the only way to fix the tensioner is to replace it can I tighten it?
