Speedometer Gauge cluster.. Question..

Hey Everyone- (1999 e36 328ic)
So I had the SRS light on the dash light on and took the bulb out but it was still lighting up.. seemed like light was coming from some where else so I go really annoyed, going through that hassel to take the thing out and i thought I could paint the area black. well bad idea.. the paint ate away at the indicatior painted on the dash and its a swirly messed.. Desperate time call for desperate ideas.. so I used eletrical tape to atttempt to cover the mess.. well It looks TERRIBLE.. I know it is there but I know others would have to looks, but I am wondering If i buy a new cluster, if there a way i can put my speedometer in the new one? I do not want to loose my mileages.. buying a new one would have different milage ? or is there a way to prgram a new one to have my mileage? any input would be great.. I am going away on vaca but if you can PM me or just reply and I will read it on the road or when I get home. thanks again can use all the help I can get!
