My 1995 325i has about 150-155 limit. But yeah, chip you comp and you'll be fine.

The topspeed of a 325 is ~145 mph and the 328 tops at ~147.5 mph. When the car can hit at least 250 km/h (~155mph) and you want to drive faster the limiter will block the fuel and ignition. OEM 328's and 'less' can't hit that speed.

OK I don;t know where you get those numbers for most of you, but OBDI from BMW stock says limited at 129, a chip will take that off and the car can usually obtain 145-150 but after that it is out of rpms. This is for an american car in europe they might limit them differently, but this should answer the question.
