Yesterday I went to a restaurant locked my car and comeback. I see a some metal thing sticking in my doorl lock. I couldn't take it out with my hands, I got home and took it out with pliers. Is it hard to steal a bmw? I got a 328i 1997.
Are bmw's hot on a black market?
Whoever tried to do it was a amature. BMWs cannot be stolen without bypassing the EWS and central locking mechanisms. Doing so involves removing the glovebox. Hard to do without attracting attention.

BMWs are very hard to steal. A regular person most likely could not steal one with out doing serious damage to the car. But, of course some one could go "Gone in 60 Seconds" style and be off with it.
same thing happend to me abotu two years ago in my 1999 540 i went to eat and came back and someone had a tryed to open the door i just pulled the thing otu and drove home

I live in Brooklyn! well I did when I bought my car in June and I parked my car in a locked garage at my Parents-but the first things I got when I picked my car from the dealership was a CLUB and the PRESTIGE REMOTE ALARM SYSTEM! Now my car locks itself if anything is open after 10 seconds. Once I locked my keys in whiles i was taking stuff out the trunk and it took a locksmith (who used to steal cars when he was younger) about 2 hours to get in with a slim jim. The funny thing, he told me, is you cannot slim jim the front doors of BMWs, which is where most amateurs try. In fact the rear doors are also made to resists slim jims or wires as well but the front doors are IMPOSSIBLE. He also pointed out that only BMWs and the newer VOLVOs are close to impossible even for experts to do a clean break in and drive off.
Plus my CLUB is kind of redundant because the steering wheel on my e36 has some internal locking device when I take the key out.
I'm never worried about car theft as much as I worry about damage to my car (hit and run, glass breakage to steal radio) when I'm not there.
But they if they really want your car they will take it!
Guys, my car has the factory alarm but I was thinking of installing a Viper alarm that detects if people are lurking around it and beeps to warn them to move before activating....
Think I should upgrade or is OEM alarm good enough?

I would Upgrade! But they tend to charge you more to install an alarm ontop of the factory one. Well since I put it that way I guess they charge to remove the factory and install the Viper.
Anyway most thiefs may recognize and be familiar with a factory alarm if that is what they expect but if you have something in there that they don't know or expect it will probably make them think a few more times about breaking into your car.

if u get an aftermarket alarm with the infared, u will be going crazy, everytime a squirel or cat walks past your car, the alarm is going to go nutz... but thats just my input!
