so whats this for and how important is it???-bmw-oem-auxiliary-thermostat-throttle-housing.jpg

previous owner put a carbon fiber CAI on car. this part is hooked up to the two black lines but he has it just hanging down. i know it goes into the air filter box but how important is this and what does it do? will it hurt anything just hanging down? its not even close to getting cought up, thats not my concern, im concerned on its function. should i drill a hole and reinsert into CAI?

as always thanks in advance for any and all help..in the mean time im searching away trying to find information out about this part...thanks.

edit: ah..so ok after some searching i found its merely a throttle body warmer. i see no ill efects of leaving it just dangling down touching nothing. in the USA i guess we really dont need it and in fact a cooler TB is preffered. at the dragstrip i use to ice bag my camaro on the air intake runners and throttlebody. so is there any reason why i should hook it back up? i dont know these cars well yet but i cant see and harm not to.
