Everytime I take the car to redline and slam the gear in, there is thud sound and a kind of a jolt. Any ideas and is it serious. Plus my vavles are knocking like shit. I should be taking it to the shop tomorrow, the car is under warranty. ghead
it might not be your valves... check to see if your spark plugs are loose... its common on the E36. Torque them to 22lb-ft and see if it solves the tapping.
Either bushing in shifter, tranny fluid, or transmission mounts. Its not to bad of a job changing the bushing, you just have to work to pull clips that you can't see above the driveshaft.

Ok I will checks all these things. Well, I bought the car beginning of Feb. and supposably the tranny was rebuilt. I'm sure my driving doesn't help much either. When I'm on the autobahn rev tach is usually in the range of 6500-6900. Sometimes for long periods of time.
Check your guibo also, it's a large rubber damper that connects the tranny output shaft with the driveshaft.

Believe me guys it is hella fun driving on the autobahn with your balls to the wall. Of come across some tense moments though, dame trucks always wanting to jump out in front of you. Good thing my brakes work good.
Well dudes went to the shop today and the mechanic said "it sounds like low oil pressure to me" so he just did your routine oil change. He said see if the sound goes away if not come back. I'm going back tomorrow and telling him some story that I broke down on the autobahn. Hopefully that will be enough for them to finally check the vavles. Thats what it is. Oh, I also checked the spark plugs they were all good.

Some years ago, I was in Germany with my cousin, and we were driving on the autobahn from Frankfurt SE to Austria. Anyway, I just remember that despite being the autobahn, there was only 2 lanes in either direction, and as you described, nervous but exciting. It was like a movie in fast forward. Trying to go 160 - 170 kmph on a busy 2 lane and having slow vehicles jump out in front of you. Fast driving, fast braking. It was sweeet. It did not feel dangerous since we had a late model 7 series that ran oh so smooth....
At least Germany has a law to probihit big trucks from driving on the autbahn on weekends. (or at least they did some years ago...)
And here in Western Canada we have wide open spaces, 2 lane divided highway with shoulders; and they ticket us for going 120 kmph... go figure...
