Hello bmw community, i drive a 93' 318i ive had it for about 6mos its been doing the oh so sommon engine sputter when accelerating.
for starters check that you have no vaccume leaks that is important check your hoses EGR (exaust gas recirulator) for carbon buildup
second check your coolant temp. guage (only if it acts different between cold and hot)
make sure you put 93 grade fuel in your car ONLY 93 nothing less
those are all factors that can cause your engine sputter
now...ive used fuel system cleaner many times BUT a few days ago i put 2 bottles of fuel system cleaner and 2 bottles of octane booster into half a tank of 93 octane...well needless to say i dont sputter anymore i may be one of the lucky ones with no cracks or SEVERE carbon buildup but my car now runs like a champ and i came to these forums looking for a solution and i noticed many others were looking for help on this same problem
before i get all kinds of people in here saying "WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING!??!?!" thats a very good question...honestly i was sick of my car not being what it should be and for the first time in 6mos i was actually able to experiance the ultimae driving machine to its full potential and i couldnt be happier.
my first post...quite loaded...but i hope someone finds some use out of it tyvm!
