Service Interval Lights

I just brought a 1996 328IS with 34,000 miles. When I originally brought the bmw the service bar was at 4. In 2 weeks its down to 1. It just went through a certified bmw mechanic. I guess you can say I've been having a little too much fun with my newly purchased car.

I know it doesn't need to go in the shop for a maintenace check. I wanted to reset the service light. A friend directed me to a web-link

first off welcome to the forums... enjoy your stay

as to your service light, thats for oil changes... and inspection.. u can either make that in the website, or just go to a good mechanic, who knows bmws and get that light reset!

It just went through inspection 2 weeks ago and isn't due for an oil change for another 2k miles.

Whats an estimated figure for inspection/to get the light off?

Just to make sure; place the ignition to position 2, ground the clip then place it in pin #7 and then remove after 11 secs to reset the service.

if u bring it to a mechanic who has the reset tool... he should do it for free!!

Yep, that will work. and you don't need to make the tool. A paper clip will work. Just make sure you short the right pins, 7 and 19.

11 seconds resets the inspection I and II, 3 resets the oil

I ended up cutting a piece of wire off my house stereo speaker and resetting my service light.

I won't lie, my hands were shaking.... lol


Last thing I wanted to do is blow my car cpu.

I did the paper clip method, works like a charm. I wonder what brave soul decided to try that first...
