I have a semi top. On day my boot would not close by itself so I started messing with my top. I think that is when I broke this rod. Now my boot closes, but my top does not open or close. I can manually push the top back into the compartment but and then hit the button to close the boot. Same thing when I open it I can push the button and the boot will open. Then I pull the top and the back of the top goes up fine to let the boot close. I am going to pickapart or try and find this rod for cheap somewhere.
Check your rod and make sure its not broken. I heard it is the main drive motor rod. Or something like that....its driver side under the boot.
