S52 Cylinder 2 Failure

Hey Guys,

So I recently bought an E36 M3 (my first BMW) and I bought it salvage with 110k miles. The guy who sold it told me it needed a head gasket, first thing I did was fix that. Once I fixed it the guys who did it told me it had low compression on cylinder 2 and needs a new engine block (new engine with labor).

I am in the car 5k already and don't know if I should replace the engine or just sell it.
It's a 1996 M3, estoril blue, luxury package, and has no dents or dings.. perfect body.

What do you think? Should I sell it, buy an engine, fix it??? Anyone with a good tip or idea would really help me out..

No way Keep it! I have the exact same estoril e36 m3 s52 but myne's a 99. I'm staring at it right now in my garage. Funny thing, I am having the exact same problem as you. My mechanic just changed the head gasket (from mls to oem) but now on one cylinder like yours (but my bad cylinder is #1) is only doing 50 psi. All the other Cylinders are 200psi compression. It forever misfires and won't stay running either. I think a valve's stuck open or something.

Did you figure out why your #2 cylinder isn't compressing?
