Rust Prevention

When I first got my car I called the dealer and asked about rust proofing. They said that BMW does a pretty good job on that when the car comes off the assembly line and not to worry about it. I believed them because my dad had an '85 528, he drove it every winter and not one spot of rust. But last year after the winter I noticed a few small areas on my car with some rust. Of course I got them cleaned up right away but before this winter I decided to get my car rust proofed. I was wondering what other people on these forums do.

Also, today I saw an add for a device called Counteract. From what I understand it provides a small current to a car's metal body which aids in preventing rust.

Anyone hear/try a product like this? Just wondering if it really works.

Man am I jealous of you guys in the Southern States. It's so warm and dry there you probably never have to worry about rust.

Well.. atleast 50% of us dont exactly care... but if I'm correct BMW did at one time incorporate a device which did send a current through the body.. this came on cars which had the "winter package"... I may be mistaken.. hope someone else can back me up...

i take my car to a good rust check place, they spray the car with an oil , make sure they use good stuff like castrol or something better.

also its best to do it in moderately warm temperatures so that the oil can actually bond deep into the metal.

wax and trying to keep it clear or sand and salt over the winter.. the salt eats away at the clear coat which can cause the paint to decay, which will lead to rusting?? just keep it clean and make sure wax is on it!!

I try to keep my car as clean as possible.
I definitely wax and in the winter I try to rinse off the sand, salt and crud when the temp goes above freezing.
But I was wondering if this product really works. I guess I'll do more research.
I thought more people would be worried about rust but I guess not.

guess, electronic rust protection systems seem to be effective. Looks like people have been using itinternationally for more than two decades now.
