rubbing sound to woooing sound

Hi Guys;

maybe you can help me, I have a 318i and recently after I travel to Dubai with friends, I heared some rubbing sound, its like metal to asbestos, so i thought it was just my brake pads; however recently ann additional wooing sound comes in in the middle, where the transmission is. but it dissappears most of the time.

it usually comes only when I start my car from morning or the car comes from a long park. say 2 hrs. but on idles I cant hear a thing?

Its driving me nuts!

So is it only happening whilst moving? Is it at speed?
Is there any related vibration?

no vibration only at start or 2 or 3 times when slowing down, its gone again today.
but i wanna find where it is.

Could be the tranny/clutch, or even a belt/pulley issue !!! Just a thought...

is the tranny near the transmission or near the rear?

the term is new to me, im used to japs car, like differential, propeller and cross bearings.

today I heard the noise again.

Oooops, sorry mate... Tranny = Gearbox !

Thanks a lot, thats great, I thought too its coming from there, but the gear box is only for steering isnt it?

Noooooo, the Gearbox is behind the engine and gives drive to the wheels !
