| 1992 325is coupe w/114k miles.I just bought this baby and she came w/ full maintenance records going back to first owner. Always maintained at same San Francisco garage. A week ago I replaced the exhaust from the cat - back at a reputable BMW shop. Before that was done, the exhaust sound was loud, but I don't think it was loud enough to drowned out the noise I'm hearing now. Meaning I strongly suspect that something happened during the muffler replacement that caused the current problem. But I'm not certain.
What I'm hearing is a noise that almost sounds like the left rear tire is rubbing on the wheel well when I make a right turn, but I've jacked up that corner and looked closely, and I'm pretty sure that's not it. I see no evidence of anything rubbing on inside of tire, wheel well, or shock. Turn can be very slight, or 90 degrees, but the sound only happens on rt. turns and absolutely nothing weird happens on left turns.
If I listen real hard and sort of gently swerve to the right at about 50-60 mph the sound almost sounds like it's coming from directly under the center console. Rubbing noise is probably related to speed of travel, meaning the "frequency" of the rubbing is lower at lower speeds, but it's still there.
CV joint?
Thx in advance for any help. |
