Sometimes when I start my car, the idle is a bit rough for a few seconds then it goes away. It sounds like the car is hesitating .
I have a 97 328 with 42000 miles.
Any ideas why this is happining?
Yes... your ICV is dirty.... (Idle Control Valve).... I think there is a DIY cleaning post in the FAQ section.... if not... search it.. and you will find.
That is one common cause. There are a few others. Vaccum leak from a hose, or O2 sensor or even your FAMS. Just other possibilities for you to investigate.
I have a similar problem with my 97 M3. Starting from cold it idles a little rough for about 30 secs, then smoothes out nicely. If I try to drive within the first 30 secs, it will hesitate a bit. I have 97K on mine and it's been doing this for a couple years now.
