Post Rolling code transponder

Apparently it is used in all the E36 series BMW's.I did some research
and got some information on it.Everytime you put your key
into the ignition and start the car,a code is sent from the key to the EWS
module which allows the ECU to let the car start. On switching off the car,
the EWS module sends a new code to the key(reprograms key) so that when the car is started the next time,a new code will be used.

So what happens when you use the spare key?

I know for a fact that the E36s (and up I do believe) have this feature. The keys have a chip in them that sends a signal to the car saying "hey, I'm a legit key, it's cool to start the car." The spare key, master key, and plastic "wallet" key all do the same thing. This is the reason these keys can ONLY be replace by the dealership for quite a substantial fee.
