Reverse Light Problem

hey guys! i was wondering if any of you know why my reverse lights intermittently work. Sometimes they light up and sometimes they don't. used any ideas?

first off, check and see if they are properly fitted to the tail light holder and that they have clean and good contacts..

then if its a manual, it is mosk likely that your reverse trasnmission swicth is about to fail, ,mine is gone, just waitng warmer weather to change.
anyway to replace, lift the car, get a new swicth and jsut uncrew the other and put the new one in. and then plug the wire to it.

if its an automatic, then the gear selector sensor is gone.
there is a electric siwch underneat the gear selector that tells the computer what is the selected gear.. and it also turns on the reverse lights.

i had that problem.. so i changed the socket.. and it hasn't done it since!

My reverse lights didn't work at all. Replaced the reverse switch on the trans, everything works now. I'd check there first.

any one have any pictures of where the reverse switch is on the manual transmission? Also, how much did one of those switches run you? what are they called so I can check prices online?

Bavarian Auto has them listed as "Back Up Light Switch - Manual transmission " for $11. I think they're easy to find on the transmission but, I had my shop replace it while I had it in. Mine has died twice in 2 years, so I don't consider it a reliable part.

I had the same case as kestrel325is did.

you will need a 19mm wrench with at least a 10 degree offset in order to pull this bad boy out.
