Replacing Light Bulbs In Instrument Pannel.

I need to replace a few of the bulbs in the instrument panel. Haynes manual says I need to disconnect the steering wheel airbag. No problem there but my question is, do I really need to disconnect the bag from the power unit under the seat? or can I just disconnect the battery? Do I need to worry about static electricity setting the bag off?

If you have a drivers side air bag, disconnect the negative battery cable and let her rest for 5-10 minutes. Then, remove the airbag from the wheel by taking out the torx screws and unclipping the airbag from its' electical connctor on back side of steering wheel. If you fail to diconnect the battery there is a POTENTIAL for deployment and a certainty that the SRS light wil be flashing at you after you are done and you will need to get them light reset.
