I have to replace an H. Kardon speaker in the driver side door. How difficult is it and how do I take the side panel off? I do have a side air bag so I am a little nervous about messing with it. I have a 98 328is. Also I have done several upgrades that I will share with the group in the next few days. Some new stuff that I had installed to get more horsepower and a few other little things. Thanks guys for your help, Nack.
u shouldn't have that much of a problem... they have a tool specially made to take door panels off... but u don't really need it... your door panel is held on by clips... just take a flathead screwdriver and find the clips, and try to easly pry the door panel off.. just be extra carefull for the airbag... just go gentlely

not in the door panel, in the door, whenever you are fooling around with airbags in general, u HAVE to be careful!!, if that thing goes off, thats like $1500 right there!!!
first of all, just to let u know, even if u disconnect the battery, the airbag still can go off.... picture this : example : ..... your driving, u have a short, and your car dies... u have no power, u get into an accident, and the air bags still deploy??.. makes sense, huh!
I thought air bags required the electrical system to deploy.... otherwise how will the "crash message" be sent to tell the airbags to deploy? If that's even how they work, I'm not sure. lol. Anyone knowledgeable who wants to explain how the airbag system in it's entirety works?
