Wow I replaced my microfilter yesterday and my air works 500% better. I'm still new to my car and I'm learning. So the microfilter went unnoticed by me for a few months... a few years at least from the previous owner. So this is a reminder to anyone who hasn't changed it lately. Just check my pictures and see how bad it can get.
Eww, I bet mine's dirtier, a woman (housewife lady) owned this car before me and I havn't replaced it in a year myself, nor has the car had inspections. I bet it still has the stock microfilter from 1998...
I didn't remove the glove box and used this write up. It wasn't hard at all untill i got to putting the new one in. It took me a good ten minutes of fumbling and trying to get the stupid thing in. Then putting the passenger air duct was a pain but not as hard. But otherwise not hard and definitely worth it.
can you clearly tell the difference ? would this be the reason why when I just put the vent on it stinks ocassionally ?

The difference is amazing, setting "4" will blow you away if its new. My old one was wimpy on 4 with all that stuff clogging it. For example the old setting 4 was like the new setting 2. It could stink because of the old filter. Another thing to try would be to turn your air on all the way and then open the hood and spray some lysol disinfectant spray in the air vent. A smell you can tolerate and it should fix that problem.

I bought mine from BMP design but BavarianAutoSport has them and I'm sure the dealer. Not sure about brands but I don't think it would matter that much. They are all gonna basically filter the air, its not like its a performance mod. But highly recomend to change it if your not sure when it was done.

Hey thanks for making us aware of this. I had no idea that filter was even there! My car is the same year as urs, so i can only imagine how the filter will look. thanks again.
yup no problem, good luck with the filter change... here are some other links that can help you Microfilter write upAnother (Posted Earlier). I liked the second one better but the first has a couple pictures to help you out. *I don't recommend removing the glove box*
Not sure about the dealer, I got a long drive to find one. I don't like ordering stuff offline either and when I do I have a whole list of stuff just to make the shipping worth it. I didn't have a great experience with BMP either ghead
