remove seats

i want to take out my seats to give my car a good cleaning inside, but i remember somehwere that they have explosives in them...is it too much trouble to take them out? or put em back in, i took out my contours seats easily, but then again it was a ford and the seats werent electric, thanks

lol, yea, something about explosives in case of a car accident, the blow up and push the seat back...it was in the bentley manual, but i lost my copy...so yea

No, just slide the seat all the way forward and remove the two rear floor bolts, then slide it all the way aft and remove the two front floor bolts and the seat is free. Once the bolts are removed slide the seat to the mid-travel position and tilt it back to unplug the electrical connections underneath. The SRS side impact airbags are in the doors not the seats. On Volvos they're in the seatbacks but not BMWs. You might want to put some towels on the center console to keep from scratching it up with the seat frame while removing it. Check the underside of the seat for dirt in the gear tracks and spray some silicone on it.
