remove cylinder lock

Hello,
a week ago I couldn't turn the key on my 97 318i. I wiggled it and it turned. Started the car and went to the gym. when I got there, I turned the key to shut the car off but the car wouldn't turn off. I had to disconnect the ignition module plug to turn it off.

I went and got the manual and saw how to take the cylinder off to replace it, but that didn't work. I gues the while thing is spinning and the little hole is not lining up to put a small wire in and put the cylender out. after messing with it, the key goes in now but won't turn. can someone tell me how I can take the cylinder off now?
