Rear window cover (trim) 325 tds 1996

The cover, the trim around the top and sides of the rear window has deteriorted in the sun. I got the local garage to order the part 5131977277 but they tell me they cannot fit it unless they break the glass and replace the whole thing. Can this possibly be true? If not, how do you get the old one out and fit the new? Ta.

I would say that if the trim fits behind the glass then the window has to come out...
If it doesn't then maybe you could "knife-out" the old one !

Thanks. Can the rear window be removed and replaced without being broken?
