I was looking into buying a spoiler for my car. I am indecisive between the lip spoiler or the M3 wing spoiler. I have a 98 318i and I a leaning more towards the lip spoiler becasue it looks as if it would give more rear downforce... What are some of the opinions out there for looks and downforce???
There are different schools of thought on this topic. I personally like the looks of the wing spoiler, and believe it gives you more downforce because of the more extensive area off of which air is deflected.

Downforce won't come into play until you reach speeds that would behoove you to have better tires. In other words, you will run out of tire before you run out of downforce.
As for appearance, it's merely opinion, but I wouldn't try to make my car look really fast unless it was.
Why does everyone always go outside the scope of the question? I was mainly asking for looks, but then there is always the added bonus of downforce. In other words, the look, lip or wing?
I said it already, wing. And -- no offense -- but why did you mention downforce if that was not really your concern? Thta is probably why we all started talking about downforce in the first place.

I personally like the lines of the car as they are without a spoiler, so would probably go for the lip spoiler, it doesn't change the lines as much. The M spoiler looks good if oyu have the M front and rear bumpers.

That is very tru. The spoiler will not look like it belongs with the stock rear and front bumpers.
