Does your onboard computer tell you if you have rear tailight failure???? Mine does, and I bought some aftermarket tails, and they just plugged right in!!! Not a lot of help, but maybe a little!

I think on some of the cheap aftermarket tails they can set off your OBC saying taillight failure or something like that. To prevent it, some rewiring is supposedly needed....

I haven't done it....I'm remembering back to other discussions here.....

perfessionally installed? taillights are pretty easy to install, the hard part is getting the "taillight failture" to go away. Mine still says it but i've heard with a chip or shark it makes it go away and since im getting one soon, i've just ignored it.

getting them installed would be a waste of money pretty easy job and the intructions should tell you everything you need to know. where did you buy the taillights? if they are a pretty good brand you should have no problem with the obc

This is a link to the seller that i used on e-bay named symmic http://stores.ebay.com/id=4283473&ssPageName=L2

Search e36 and then look for the tail lights

The seller combined my shipped orders and sent them quickly! Great customer service...

I got my tail lights (clear corner) and they look great, ALSO installing them REMOVED the service code on my comptuer's display.

The lights come with a manual that gives installation directions for cars w/ check control.

The installation was very easy to do (removal and installation) and took about 20 mins. incl. moving the lights over to the new housing.

If you have any ques. PM me.

OK- SO DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO MAKE THIS MESSAGE GO AWAY! ghead
It seems like you have all come to the same conclusion- the error message "Taillight Failure"- comes from aftermarket taillights- the cheap ones. I bought the car with these particular aftermarkets on and I don't know how to make the message go away. The taillights work properly which confuses me.

Is there a fuse or reset?
PLEASE SOMEONE

David, some people don't make a lot of money. But that's not even the point. It seems incredibly idiotic to pay $245 for new ones, when the fix could be $5.
And frankly, what's the point in buying new ones, when the ones you have work FINE! Don't you think!!!!

great point, and lots make it

my side is
1)i make a good living even as a person under the age of 20
2)i like to deal with good companies have warranties etc
3)the tails from bavauto have been proven to work, so paying the extra doesnt get to me
4)i bought a bmw (which 1 isnt my first 2nd wasnt cheap) i dont like to put some cheap parts on it.... that is just me and whatever you want to put on is fine with me. i was just stating that i would rather pay the 245$ for new tails

and whats the point of buying new ones, becuase they are clear they dont have the orange, people buy those for visual mods

David

David, I agree with you 100%. The fact of the matter is I didn't buy these lights. They were on the car when I bought the car- whole. I like them as they are now, and I haven't found one similiar even at bavauto.com.
So how can I fix the error message without replacing my working lights?

Here is a interesting question for you david:

Even if I bought these new lights from bavauto.com with a warranty, what is to say that the new ones won't have the same error message? I mean, I do have these "cheaper" lights on my car now, right? And they are supposebly the cause of the error message in the first place? You are not suggesting that by buying some special bavauto.com lights that magically the message will go away, are you?

So lets say, I want to buy the new ones, how do I get the message off, so when I get the new ones, I don't have the error message?

Catch 22?? Sarah
