RE: Need help regarding the blower/fan - 318i 1994

Hi guys, Thanks for the help in advance. I'm just not sure what part to replace with this one. My climate control doesn't work properly. The fan only works at #3 & #4 but no air is blowing out at #1 & #2. Has anyone had this issue and fixed it by replacing a part? I've searched the net and I'm not sure if I should replace the blower resistor or the final stage unit. Does anyone know what problems might arise if one of these components are defective? Thanks.

I have the same problem except the fan only works at #4. I don't even know how my climate control works since this has been broken on the car since I bought it. I replaced the blower motor resister, (under driver side kick panel, reach in toward the center, ask for further instruction if you can't find it.). It then stopped working a week later. What the heck? Replaced it again, maybe a dud part. Stop working a week later again. I gave up. I'm thinking at this point it might be a bad relay providing too much power shorting out the blower motor resistor, OR I need to replace the blower motor because for whatever reason that is sending too much power to the resistor. Either way, the resistor keeps getting blown. The final stage unit? What is that? Anyway, I hope this gives you an idea of what you're running into, perhaps we can solve both our problems together . Thanks for the input. Yeah it's been bugging me. I was doing some reading and I read that the final stage unit is for the E36 & e46 with the digital climate control. I'm so tempted to replace the blower resistor but I'm not too sure. I guess I'm lucky in some what ways since it works at two settings but I'm worried it will end up not working at all. It might be the dial too since the dial is a variable resistor as well. I'm going to consult my mech. and let you know what he thinks as well. I'll keep you posted.

Great site. My blower is not working. I have a TIS manual and it says to replacethe blower resistor. I cant find in the TIS manual any reference to the final stage resistor. Most, if not all, of the threads refer I think to a left hand drive. I am in Australia and we are mright hand drive. All of the threads indicate that it is behind the glove box which I assume is beheind the stearing in Right drives. Ithoink I have found it but the servo for the ductdamper is in the way. In any hints would be apprecaited. It is a 2001 325i
