Rattling and banging noise (back left)

Ok so i JUST bought my 94 325i yesterday and realized a problem thats making me nervous.. Whenever i go over even the little bump with my back left tire, theres a big clunking and rattling from what sounds like the back left suspension.. a few more symptoms... 1) when the car is off and parked i can push down on the back left of the car and can hear the sound but much quieter than while driving. 2) when i have someone sit in the back left seat of my car, the clanking and rattling starts to calm down..

any ideas?

check the rear suspension for damaged or loose parts including the shock absorber and the mounts.

Defo sounds like the shocks had it mate.
Have you jacked the car on that corner and checked for noise with the wheel raised?
Should be able to see the problem then.

Ok so thats a MS paint diagram of what i can see... imagine that being the side view and the tire being the back left one.. when i look at the suspension above the tire (the red bar, In diagram) while pushing up and down on the back, i can see that bar is loose and rattling. the brown ball with the black border on the red bar represents a rubberish type of piece that is also broken into two pieces.. the tiny picture in the top right is a zoomed view of where the blue arrow points, if i look under the car ontop of the wheel i can see the red bar goes into a whole in the frame of the car. that is also very loose in there... that is the best description i can give and i hope you take it easy on this little noob.. lol

thanks man. and ya in the third picture down that very black piece at the top of the suspension bar is split in two top half from bottom half. and the metal bar that comes out the top of that black piece wiggles and shakes and is loose at the point where it goes into the frame..
