Random Beeping on 1998 328i

I just recently purchased a used 1998 328i and it has been running great, however, recently I have noticed a random series of "three beeps" that seem to originate from the driver's left side of the console. No warning lights and check controls ok. There does not seem to be a consistent pattern as to when the beeps occur, such as speed, etc. I have poured through the manuals and cannot figure this out and my mechanic says he will have to open it up and that he cannot think of what the beeps are. The car does come with LoJack, could it have something to do with that? Help!

Sounds like your OBC is set to a specific speed. It beeps when you exceed that speed. Mine used to beep three times each time I got out of the car, then it stopped recently. It's weird like that sometimes.

But yah yours sounds like the speed one. Read up on the OBC stuff.

I was going to post this thread up, but i guess you beat me to it. Ya i own a 1994 318i and it also gives out a series of 3 beeps while I'm driving. The pattern is incosistent, but it never beeps repeatedly to the point where its annoying. Any idea what this might be? used

Look at your clock when it happens. I bet it just before the hour. There is a "feature" that does this. It can be disabled, check the manual.

Yea, check the OBC panel...there is an icon that looks like a speaker with the waves near it and it is right near the time display. The 3 beep tone is typical of the oBC feature!

temp falls below 38 it does it too

i have the same problem with my 86 328i.
when the temp falls below 38 deg, I hear one loud beep and the temp option on the OBC lights up.
I have been getting random 3 beeps ocassionally too. I asked the dealership and they had no idea. I will try disabling the memo (speaker looking) feature and see if that does it. what is the thing about the speed and the beeping ? didnt get that.

At 59 minutes past the hour it beeps so you can catch the news. Remeber AM radio where they do that?

Ok, thanks guys! You were right! I discovered the little speaker icon just to the right of the clock which disappeared when I pressed the memo key. Yeah! Thank you all soooooo much! cmeernurse
