was going to put this in audio but since its for my e36 i guess i'll slap it in here. i've gotten the dealership to undo the screws that hold in the stock radio in my 98 318i. but theres a black box thats covering the wires and i can't seem to pull it out, what steps do i need to take to get this shit out?? its bugging me..i saw the little picture and popped the black thing up..but its still not coming out or anything. thanks!
if i remember correctly you need to nudge like a screwdriver up into it and pop it out, its two pieces
yea yea, if you are just talking about the connector that plugs into the back of the radio then rej487 is correct, it pulls right out. takes alittle brute force but it'll come out, seems like there is a peice on one side that you push in or soemthing and it kind fo unlocks it and then you jsut pull it hard. be careful not to damage the wires tho!
next problem im having..is im trying to run wires from the passenger(or drivers) seat to the radio. i have a DVD player and the brain is external and so wires must be run to hide the brain. i can't get the wires through! i don't see any room, anyone take the dash apart and see any space? thanks for the help!
If you remove your headunit, you can see to the left a little hole that runs through the dash down towards the glovebox. I think some wires might be running already through there. Thats where I run wires down from.

if you plan to put the unit underneath your passenger seat or something, you can run the wires up underneath the center console and follow the console all the way to the end in the floor board then you can wrap the wires up thru a hole and to where the radio unit is. confusing i know but you'll figure it out
