Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a while in this forum, but this is my first post. Lots of great info. I'm running a '98 323is that I've had for 4 years (121K miles).
I had read in another post that the plastic neck on the E36 radiator was a source of trouble, but ignored it when I noticed some coolant leaking from it (I would simply top off the coolant when the obc said to check it). Denial is powerful! Unfortunately, I couldn't deny the fact that the neck blew up today on the highway 20 miles from home. Damn! I tried to reconnect the hose to what was left of the neck and added water. I got about a quarter mile before it blew again. Then the engine overheated. I had it towed to my mechanic. So I guess the moral of my story is: Don't ignore the signs of potential problems! You'll just end up on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck!
