What about an e36 differential with only 47k miles on it for a 325i?

If it's from a manual, and you have a manual, and the gearing ratios are what you want, It will work.

I'd go with and LSD like M3 (what the guy on ebay is doing), but I like to spin my wheels

what does a limited slip do though? sorry for being a n00b on this topic but I have no clue. my problem is my car is revving real high at 70mph (4k) and I'm not in the mood to do an engine swap real soon...

A limited slip (LSD) transfers power from the spinning wheel to the oposite wheel (in a turn ussually inside wheels power transfered to outsides)

The real performance benefits are in cornering, it makes a slide considerably more easy to control and allows a lot more use of throttle input to correct a slide.

Drive around at 4k isn't going to wear your engine out to the point of a rebuild in a week or 2. I say sit on your hands till you find a manual LSD differential.

In the end it's your call.
