well you should tighten them to what you need, just tighten them, then wet the windshield with water and then get in the car and turn them on at full speed if the wipers blades conact the windshield trim, you need to loosen the nut, if there's an exact measurment as to how much you should tighten them, i would think it woud be in your owner's manual, or you could just tighten them down, turn them on see how they act, and just make small adjustments until you get what you need-hope this helps
