Question about the check engine light.

The check engine light is not lit once the car is started. However if I put the keys in acc position, the check engine light is on. Is this normal or do I have to get this think checked?

if your car is on, and any light stays on, there is a problem. If not, everything is fine.

do you mean if the car is started? or just turned on?

Wlaker is right; all the lights should come on when you first turn the car on. It's basically a "lamp test" feture so you know all the lights are working correctly.
