Question about cf piece in e36

The plastic peice around my shifter and obc, etc is looking pretty rough since the person before me had some woodgrain on it and I cannot get the old glue off without scratching the plastic...I was wondering, do the carbon fiber pieces that companies make actually replace that whole piece, or do they lay on top of the piece? I am looking to remove the ACS woodgrain pieces left in my car and replacing them with carbon fiber but don't know who all makes kits for the e36 4 door...Thanks!

its usually a lay on peice. but if you contact a company, they will make you one to spec.

I believe it is bekkers imports who actaully makes a whole replacement piece for the piece that you are talking about, search for it on ebay, but the price is hefty.
