Question about the 328i

I test drove a 97 328i and the car was impressive, the gas pedal was a bit different than what I am use to it's almost like a two stage pedal.


When I was driving the car the owner told me to floor it to see what it had when I did at 35mph the car broke traction(the tires spun) when it up shifted at about 50mph, to me it was no big thing until the owner asked me what I did wrong, so I did it again. The car did shift @ 6500 rpm and the owner said that I took it past the red-line.


He also said that the "brake booster" might need to be replaced at about $1000, the bakes did feel soft.


Does this sound normal for this vehicle?

i would like to know does the 328i 1996+ have traction control or any other engine electronics??????

This one did, it has the sports package it also has the stability control.

if you floor it it should shift at around 6500 rpm... redline is 7k on the M50 engines.

this is part of the kick down system and what happens when you hit the WOT switch...

what is the WOT? switch...where the hell do i find these switchs?

So you would say the the tire "chirp" is normal?

WOT=wide open throttle?

Actually ben, he has the M52 engine(96- are the M52 engine), but you are correct.

Everything sounds normal

Gas pedal is wide at the bottom
Taxed the revs when floored
No you didnt take it past the redline, impossible rev limiter..

M52 M50 close enough... but my bad nonetheless...

The chrip may be a bit abnormal but it depends on surface and tires.
by anychance you were traveling over paint (like the lines on a road.)

No, I did it 4-5 times just to see if it was a fluke.

It wouldn't chirp the tires from a standstill, but from 35-50 it would.

If I shift my manual '97 328is quickly from 1st to 2nd near redline (6500) I can usually get a short tire chirp. Especially if it's wet. Not sure if this is applicable, but this is normal in my manual car.
