I have a 1996 328i convertible and original stereo is not working (no sound to all sparkers) but have power to stereo. I was wonder if a pre amp is in stereo system that I don't know about.
Hey! darkhorse! I might be wrong on this, but I think the amp is in the trunk, & you just have to remove the driver's side trunk lining to get to it??? #15 in the link below
johnny,
p.s. Check these fuses first..... fuse 9) 20amp... & ..fuse 44) 15amp...... I know I blew one of them once, & I had power to the stereo but no sound..... I got this info out of my Bentley......
the configuration of a convertible is different... but like you said, i could be wrong too ;-)
Cheers
to you too...........
You are right, in a convertible, it is behind the rear seat...........but he should check those 2 fuses first.......9) & 44)
johnny,
Thanks for all the information. I found the problem. I was not getting the
12 volts to the amp. The fuse holder near the battery was bad. The fuse was okay but where the fuse connects to the fuse holder was not letting the voltage to the amp.
I would of not been able to find out the problem if it wasn't for all the help on this forum.
Oh and just to let you know the amp is behind the passenger rear seat. Just had to remove the back seat and there it was.
So once again thank you for all your help this forum is great and highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Bimmer.
