I've got a strange and frustrating problem on my '94 E36 316 coupè:

As we all know, when you press the window-button all the way, the windows raises/lowers automatically.

On the drivers side, it only lowers automatically.
When I try to raise it, it goes up a few inches, stoppes and then lowers a few inches.
But it raises completely when I hold the button.
But then the point of "automatically" is pretty much gone, right...?

This also happens when I lock the car, and hold the key all the way to the right. (normally the windows would close, this only happens with the passenger side)

My conclusion is that the logic is broken, and I have to talk to my local dealer...
Any of you guys experienced anything similar?

btw, you say that if you hold the key all the way to the right, the windows go up? i didnt know the older e36s did that? ill have to check my manual

hehe, no problem

On my dad's '98 728I the window and sunroof closes when you depress the remote and hold the button...

The windows on our Z3 also raises the same way as on the E36.

I've got the same problem with my windows where they go up a bit, then stop and drop an inch... but if I hold down all the way then they go....

I didn't know about the key thing either... can't wait to try!

turn the key to right, hold for 5 to 8 seconds, windows roll up until you release key.

As for the original problem, is I understood right, then all you should need is a new switch.

Yours may not have it Kevin. Yours was among the 1st of the e36s this most likely was something that came later... or maybe its busted.

Yeah, hmm. I was showing off to my friends when I first got the car. I left my window out and I get out to lock the car. I was like "oops I left my window down" then I turned the key and stood there. Then I said "I meant to do that" and rolled it up from the inside.

I have the same problem to and I think it could be fixed by lubricating the window parts that make it go up...who knows

Yeah, this is a recurring problem. I've been told it's the window regulator or something. I get this on my driver's side as well.
