power steering fluid flush

I just replaced my steering rack and when i finished i went to refil the system with ATF dextron III fluid. i thought the pump would suck out the fluid from the reservour and the fluid would go through the system and push out the air. but i only filled about 1/2L of fluid and the reservour filled up, started the car, turned the steering wheel a few times but the fluid level hasn't really gone down at all. i went for a drive and the steering is not as easy as it was before so i know there must be more air in the system. what do you recommend i do?

usually if you go lock-to-lock a few times, hold it on each lock a few seconds the air will work its way out of the lines... did you get an alignment after replacing the rack? misalinment can cause it to steer harder

alignment is scheduled for tomorrow morning, it seems ok now, still a bit of air left in there i think. but the 'kink' in the steering is gone yay and it didnt cost $1000usd as bmw wanted for it.
