Possible Crank Position Sensor problem. Help please...

Hey all...I am new to this site and really need your help...

I have a 93 318i with an M44 from a 96 Z3. The engine swap was done by the PO. Today I was driving and all of a sudden the car started to misfire and behave very badly with the engine and exhaust popping etc...a definite misfire. Then as quickly as it started it stopped. The car ran fine for a while and then it happened again. Then it ran fine all the way home.

I had a very simialr issue when I drove the car through some standing water about 6 months ago. But it's been dry all day yesterday and today.

Do you think this is a faulty Crank Position Sensor? This is what I am thinking but I guess I need some reassuring.

The Bently Manual says the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 on the crank position sensor should be 1280 ohms. I got 690. So I guess that means that it's bad...however, I seam to recall a post in another forum that said the Bently manual was wrong. Anyone know which is correct?
