Pop..........pop, Pop......repeat - BMW Forum

So if my car is running weather it is in gear or not, I hear a popping noise coming from the firewall on the driver's side. But this is only heard when stopped. It has to be quiet.

But it is not a high pitched poping like bubble wrap, it is more of a low toned soft poping sound.

I am fucking clueless. Anybody......?

Does it happen at an idle, while the car is sitting at a standstill? Mine will do that, but it can only be heard from the inside of the car. Not from the outside. It sounds like it is coming from in front of the steering wheel? Even when you are not touching anything? If so mine does it every once in a while and I don't give it any mind.

I am just as clueless as you are on this one. But it is a very soft low kind of clunk/pop, and it is not a fast popping it is a slow relaxed sort of rythm.

when you rev your engine, does the rate of the popping increase?

Interestingly enough it doesn't increase with RPMs. I think it might have something to do with the vents opening and closing in the climate control system.

This question was raised a while ago on here and I too have that soft popping clunk noise. It has to do with the venting behind the dash. I changed my microfilter out and I cant notice the sound anymore. The sound you guys are reffereing to was very subtle to begin with ,correct?

It was very subtle, and now that you mention it I don't think I have heard it since I replaced my micro filter. Maybe with a clogged filter it is creating backpressure and flopping around a vent flap??? I don't know you got me. You should replace your microfilter it seems to help.

It sounds like I have the exact same problem rookie. Oh well, I'll get around to it.
