hi all i am new here and would like to know if any one has ever had a pining troublei have tryed all kinds of things to fix it with no lucky . if any one can help me please let me know thank you

when does your car ping?

When you release the clutch when switching gears?
When you are going up a hill in a lower gear?
Do you have a large Cone filter w/no heat sheild?

I have a 93 325is- the clicking sound turned out to be detonation, If you have a cone Filter, it may be sucking in too much hot fan wash from the engine bay-
I cured my car of this by getting a CAI (the kind that goes down behind your headlamp and behind the front air dam), also my cat was plugged up which was making the engine run hot-

I was told the Air was too hot so it was thin and I was not getting a good combustion which caused the valves to "tick" but that was only when i was bogging it down a bit or going up hill in a low gear- also happened just when I was at a stop on flat ground. that was My cars solution, i hope it helps a bit

well i have a 318 ti that is super charged and it pings under a load like runing hard and with the a/c on it is real bad i was told it could be the mass air changed it and that was not it then some one told me that it could be the o2 sensori have changed . plugs,wires, gas filter, and there is not faults on the dme . this has been going on for the last 6 months and i don't know what to do , and yes i have a all dinan cold air and down loads so if you can help i would like it a great deal or if you know some else that mite know

if you are pinging with a SC then you need an octane booster or lower the psi.
