Piggy-back ECU - BMW Forum

I am looking at chipping or something similar and am a bit confused. A friend of mine just put a power commander on his bike which basically plugs inline between the throttle sensor and the ECU, he called it a piggy back ecu from my understanding it is the same as chipping.

So is chipping the same? I would like to be able chip my car now, with a very mild map, and maybe smooth out the power band a little, I get a major surge when I hit the power band! However down the road I want to be able to program a much more aggresive map once I have done more performance mods. I wouldn't mind being able to just plug a laptop in, like my buddy does on his bike.

umm i know my buddy has one on his wrx and it seems like it works really good lots of codes to enter, but the power shows! and you can upgrade it with your own computer where are you finding a piggy back system for the e36? kind ofinterested!

oh yeah by the way you are about 45 min south of me, we should meet up sometime i will be in seattle august 12th for a mariners game (even though they really suck, but hey free tickets!)

Hey David,

I live on San Juan island most of the time, I take the ferry from Anacortes to get back home. I was in bellingham this last weekend, though. I tried to run chuckanut between bellingham and mt. vernon, but there were so many damn tourists it was twisties at about 15mph which just isn't the same!

Please tell me you know where there are some good roads that aren't packed with old people and soccer moms? I run with a couple of guys on bikes, and enjoy kicking their ass on those types of roads, a group run would be fun! Keep me posted on that weekend of the 12th I think I am going to be in everett/seattle then.

chuckanut is great at the right time, but yes it can suck really bad! the trip up to baker is GREAT, usually not to many cars, but you can pass if you are ballsy, other than just out in the county by everson, lynden and ferndale! we should go hit some roads up sometimes! my email is volcombmwm3@yahoo.com and AIm is olprawkdrums yeah that would be tight if you were in saettle on the 12th maybe we can hook up!
