I have a 1997 328is with absolutely no modifications to it whatsoever. But I'd like to increase it's performance. Can anyone suggest some performance mods/upgrades? I wonder what things make the biggest difference, and what is worth the cost.
I know this may be a big question, but I appreciate your suggestions! You guys rock.
Why don't you check out the www.dinanbmw.com site, they offer some kits for HP increase. I think you'll find if you ask a specific question, you're libel to get a better response. And what do you mean by performance, is that just HP or does that include other areas such as cornering ability, etc. Also what is your budget?
I have changed out a muffler and added a K&N air filter. The only modification I have "felt" is when I dinan'd the software in my 97 528i. It did improve lower end grunt (remapped auto trany software) and the car is a bit peppier.
Okay, cool. Obviously I'm a newbie and I don't even know what to ask. haha I am basically just looking for some ideas. I've been reading through this forum, and I am becoming inspired to do something with my car!
Are the software upgrades reversible? And do you know anything about it affecting gas mileage?
Also, can someone recommend a place to get clear turn signal lights at a good price?
The only place I know of is Bavarian Autosport, although they seem pricey.
Ever wondered why the 325 and 328 are roughly the same BHP? Because of the restriced inlet manifold. See the 325 inlet manifold was bigger which is why their nearly on par, but did you know that a 325 inlet manifold will go on a 328? And theres plenty more. For instance......
New exhaust, then de-cat it.
Big bore throttle body.
New air filter
Chip
Underdrive pullies
The inlet manifold wont go straight on, but it is possible, and I hear well worth while with a 328. You can also do things like take the air con out but not really worth it IMO. And as for the air filter, I dont think ANY air filter ever makes that much difference preformance wise, but it'll certainly make a diffrence sound wise. That coupled with a new exhaust (and/or de-cat) should change the sound of the car plus give a few BHP (10-15+bhp) As for the throttle body and chip, these will make the most change although i'm not sure what extra that gives. Underdrive pullies will probably give 2-3+bhp gains same as if you remove the air-con. Then i think you probably going to have to get into the engine to change things like cams. But then you back to where I started, superchage it or turbo it. Personally i'd go S/C.
