best way to do it is to get your car stripped down and then painted but that's a lot of $

I have been looking into it for my 328i. Any place that can do a decenet
job will cost you from $800 - $1,000. That gets 5 or more coats and a nice
uv clear coat that makes em look so good.

800-1000? holy crap? cheapo! A GOOOOOD paint job is going to cost no less then 2000. Mine is getting painted in April/May (whenever it warms up) and it's going to cost me 2200 plus paint minus door jams. This is the cheapest quote I got and it's from a family friend who is a pro painted who does hot rods.
I just got my 1995 318i repainted at the BMW dealership after a city Bus collided with my passenger side....
well I got my passenger side door, mirror and fender replaced and I got my entire passenger side and hood and mirror repainted (and I got new OEM grey sideskirts) . The bill (paid by the NYC insurance) was $1275 for parts, paint and labor with paint labor being about 60% of that figure. My car on that side looked like a 2005 BMW, But then the other side looked like a 1995 BMW so the guy told me bring my car back and he would paint detail the other side for $100. But I got my Bumper painted as well for a total of $300. Now my entire car looks polished and new except for the roof (which I overlooked) and I should've told him to paint match the skirts.
But my point is you don't have to repaint the entire car....but paint detailing certain areas of your car is cheaper and looks just as good.

Cruzin No...I know a place BMW Life Quality dealership's collision shop that will paintmatch your bumper for $200. And If you want paint detailing you'll pay $100 extra. So you'll pay $300 for a full package. (when I mean paint detailing....you get clear coat on all panels and any scratches or swirls fixed)....I gotta go back and get my skirts paint matched...I'm looking at $100 a skirt.
This was my car before the paint job...when i first bought off the lot. In fact it was the very last ay that car saw that awful auction lot!!
Just so you'd know they difference when you paint detail.
A full paint job with good paint shouldn't cost less than $2000..if so I would be very weary. I got a quote from an awsome shop that uses lamborghini paints, heat bakes the car, uses many many coats of paint and clearcoat and it was over 5 grand. Thats a true professional job though. The whole process takes 30 days..That is the highest end of the spectrum though, personally i'd look into getting your car buffed out and paint detailed like delmarco said. You'd be surprised how well the paint will come back
I have painted the front end of my old porsche and it was like $1000 for just the front hood, quater panel, bumper area, mirrors and part of door to blend with other paint, that is with clear coat.
I just got my front bumper painted on my bmw(bought it with a little curb rash on the corner), of course the grey was already painted, but it cost me $100 for paint, labor, and they installed new drip and bottom molding around my driver's side windows. I paid for the parts and they installed and painted.
For a whole car it is going to be expensive $2000 or more is my guess. I would have them paint match the new parts and try to save any of the paint you already have, just buff it up.
my buddy rebuilds/paints cars for ppl for a living (its his only job, and he makes damn good $$ doin it)....and he would paint my car for a few hundred bucks if i supply the paint. can u get factory paint from a bmw dealership.? my cars in aqua metallic so its not quite as easy to find a quick match as some colors
